Our missionworship

At our church, and throughout Methodism, the essential elements of worship are hymn and worship song, Bible reading and prayer. We commend the examples shown here and hope they will assist you in your personal devotions.

The apostle Paul tells that God's grace is available to all

We who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.

We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.

At all times we carry in our mortal bodies the death of Jesus, so that his life also may be seen in our bodies. Throughout our lives we are always in danger of death for Jesus' sake, in order that his life may be seen in this mortal body of ours. This means that death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

The scripture says, "I spoke because I believed." In the same spirit of faith we also speak because we believe. We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus to life, will also raise us up with Jesus and take us, together with you, into his presence.

All this is for your sake; and as God's grace reaches more and more people, they will offer to the glory of God more prayers of thanksgiving. For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day.

And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever.

2 Corinthians 4: 7-17

A hymn assuring us that God is with us always

In heavenly love abiding,
   No change my heart shall fear,
And safe is such confiding,
   For nothing changes here:
The storm may roar without me,
   My heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me,
   And can I be dismayed?

Wherever he may guide me,
   No want shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me,
   And nothing can I lack:
His wisdom ever waketh,
   His sight is never dim:
He knows the way he taketh,
   And I will walk with him.

Green pastures are before me,
   Which yet I have not seen;
Bright skies will soon be o'er me,
   Where darkest clouds have been;
My hope I cannot measure,
   My path to life is free;
My Saviour has my treasure,
   And he will walk with me.

A prayer to express confidence in God's presence

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
