Learning is a lifelong process for the Christian, and at our church teaching complements other learning experiences that help develop and deepen the faith of all our people.

Teaching begins with children from three years onwards. Here it is part of a variety of interesting activities, yet we hope that for many, this is the start of a life of Christian discipleship.

For adults, the principal teaching occasion is the Sunday service—because attendance at Sunday worship is an obligation of Methodist Church membership. Here we listen to a sermon, hear readings from the Bible and sing worship songs & hymns—many of which are important sources of Methodist theology!

Another place for teaching is the small group—most of which at our church meet in peoples' homes. Many groups work to a common agenda; settings are relaxed and informal and everyone is given a chance to have their say.

What does the Methodist Church teach?

As Methodists, we are part of a mainstream Christian church which works with other denominations whenever possible.

But there are certain emphases in the Methodist culture which make it distinctive—many of them initiated by our founder, John Wesley. Notable are:

n that all can be saved
n an assurance of God's love
n the importance of lay people
n the value of small groups.
