About Queens Park

Queens Park Community Church began in 1991 as an ecumenical initiative to support a large housing development in north-west Billericay, with monthly services at a local community centre.

Although partner churches eventually dropped out, Methodists from Western Road persisted, holding weekly services whilst searching for a site for a permanent church.

They envisaged a church building close to neighbourhood shops to serve both as a place of worship and as a centre for community activities. In 1997, they took a giant step forward when the church bought a prominent site from the local authority and launched a building project for £350,000.

Vision became reality in 2003 when a new church building was opened and dedicated by the Rev Ermal Kirby, then chairman of our Methodist district.

PASTOR MARK CONLON discusses the guiding principles of local church life

We must demonstrate that the church is not just for those who worship here, so I encourage church members to pray and care for, and become involved with, all the people who live in Queens Park.

This means that as well as services, prayer times and cell groups, there are also craft & art groups, a toddlers' group and our open-to-all Coffee Pot. We also give our time to older members of the community.

There are, however, occasions when we cater for each other within the church, with bring-and-share lunches and social gatherings, such as the traditional Christmas lunch for over 30 people, many of whom would otherwise be alone.

I encourage regular worshippers to take opportunities to develop their relationship with God and each other, with quiet days and prayer.

At Queens Park we seek to make the building inviting to everyone and we involve the congregation in working together to produce special displays for Easter & Christmas and an arts festival in celebration of harvest, to which the wider community comes in numbers!

I want to see the Community Church continue being just that—an important part of the community and a good example of how Christian life is not separated from, but involved with, everyday life.
